Cockcroft-Gault Calculator

Creatinine clearance estimate (drug-dosing convention)

Equation & limitations

Equation
CrCl (mL/min) = ((140 − age) × weight) / (72 × Scr) × (0.85 if female)
Version
Cockcroft-Gault 1976 using actual body weight
Source
Cockcroft DW, Gault MH. Prediction of creatinine clearance from serum creatinine. Nephron. 1976;16:31–41.
Appropriate in
Adults ≥18 years with stable renal function. Many drug labels still key dosing to CG CrCl.
Limitations
  • Uses actual body weight. For very obese patients some references substitute an adjusted weight; that variant is not implemented here.
  • Not for unstable/acute kidney injury or oedematous states.
  • Assumes IDMS-traceable creatinine; units are mg/dL — entering µmol/L will give a wrong number.

For educational use. Results support, and do not replace, clinical judgement — check them against the patient and local guidelines.
