Overview
Acetohexamide is a first generation sulfonylurea medication used to treat Diabetes mellitus type-2,particularly in people whose diabetes cannot be controlled by diet alone.
Indications
Acetohexamide is primarily indicated in conditions like Diabetes mellitus type-ii.
Contraindications
Acetohexamide is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity,Pregnancy,Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.
Side Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Acetohexamide are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Fever, Skin reactions, Breathlessness, Hypoglycemia.
Warnings
Acetohexamide can increase the sensitivity of your skin to the sun.Keep out of sun or wear protective clothing outdoors and use a sunscreen.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers, patients suffering from Kidney dysfunction, and patients suffering from Liver Malfunction.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Adult Dosage
1 g 3-4 times/day (1 (1)) As recommended. PO — Donot exceed 4g/day.
