Overview
Alginic Acid is a hydrophilic colloidal carbohydrate extracted with dilute alkali from species of brown seaweed of the class Phaeophyceae. Alginic Acid is used as a pharmaceutical aid such as tablet binder and emulsifying agent.
Indications
Alginic Acid is primarily indicated in conditions like Dyspepsia, Epigastric distress, Heart burn, Retrosternal distress.

Side Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Alginic Acid, which give rise to further complications include Cardiac failure.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Alginic Acid are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Gastric bloating.
Warnings
It should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular or renal disease and in patients with diabetes mellitus.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to patients suffering from Kidney dysfunction, and Geriatrics.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
