Overview
Alverine Citrate is anticholinergic (antispasmodic) agent used as a smooth muscle relaxant in disorders of the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts.
Indications
Alverine Citrate is primarily indicated in conditions like Adjunct in GI-disorders, Dysmenorrhea, Irritable bowel syndrome, Muscular spasm.
Contraindications
Alverine Citrate is contraindicated in conditions like Paralytic ileus, Intestinal obstruction.
Side Effects
The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Alverine Citrate include Hypotension, Atropine like toxic effects. The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Alverine Citrate are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Headache, Nausea, Rashes, Pruritus, Allergic reactions, Wheezing, Shortness of breath,
Warnings
Avoid Alverine citrate in patients with intestinal obstruction or paralytic ileus. Tell your doctor if you are looking pale and feeling tired or you are suffering from severe constipation, fever or have recently travelled abroad or you are or may be pregnant, if you have abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge or if you have difficulty or pain passing urine.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Paediatrics, Pregnant Mothers, and Neonates. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Adult Dosage
60 to 120 mg (90 (90)) As recommended. PO — Preferably in 1-3 divided doses.
