Overview
Ambroxol is a metabolite of bromhexine and has similar actions and uses. Ambroxol (HCl) is used in a variety of respiratory disorders including chronic bronchitis.
Indications
Ambroxol (HCl) is primarily indicated in conditions like Bronchitis, Chronic bronchitis, Cystic fibrosis.

Side Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Ambroxol (HCl) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Hypersensitivity reactions, Contact allergy.
Warnings
Ambroxol (HCl) should be given cautiously to patients with gastric ulceration
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Adult Dosage
250 to 500 mg/d (380 (375)) 12 hourly Oral — For uricosuric action, total daily dose can be given as 2 divided doses. Maximum tolerated dose is 1 g.
30 mg/5ml (30 (30)) 24 hourly Oral — 30mg/5mL DS Syrup: 1 tsp 3 times a day.
60 to 120 mg (90 (90)) 8 hourly Oral — 30 mg tablets: 1 tab 3 times a day.
75 mg (75 (75)) 24 hourly Oral — 75 mg SR Capsule: 1 cap per day.
