Aminoglutethimide

Aminoglutethimide is antineoplastic agent, also called as anticancer drug. Aminoglutethimide is effective in the treatment of breast cancers to slow or stop the growth of abnormal cells. Aminoglutethimide is used in combination of different anticancer drugs to obtain most excellent therapeutic effects and minimize unwanted effects or toxicities.

Aminoglutethimide is primarily indicated in conditions like Advanced breast or prostate cancer, Breast cancer, Cushing`s syndrome due to malignant disease, Cushing's syndrome, Prostatic cancer.

Aminoglutethimide is contraindicated in conditions like Adrenal insufficiency, Pregnancy, Porphyria, Breast feeding.

The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Aminoglutethimide, which give rise to further complications include Agranulocytosis, Pancytopenia. Aminoglutethimide produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Adrenal Insufficiency. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Aminoglutethimide therapy. The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Aminoglutethimide include Drowsiness. The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Aminoglutethimide are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Drowsiness, Skin rashes, Rashes, Lethargy, Giddiness.

Aminoglutethimide should be used with caution in patients with kidney or liver disease, hypothyroidism or chicken pox. This medication must be used under close medical supervision. Periodically perform laboratory tests to check the effects of this medication. This drug should be used with caution during pregnancy or lactation only if clearly needed. Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication.

Drug should not be given to Paediatrics, Pregnant Mothers, Geriatrics, and Neonates.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
