Overview

Bambuterol acts as a bronchodilator. Bambuterol dilates the bronchi (air passage) and used in the treatment of asthma ( respiratory tract disease characterized by bronchospasm, wheezing and difficulty in breathing). Bambuterol is the ingredient of many rectal preparations used for the symptomatic relief of hemorrhoids.

Indications

Bambuterol is primarily indicated in conditions like Persistent Asthma, Bronchitis, Emphysema, Obstructive airway disease.

Contraindications

Bambuterol is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity, Liver dysfunction, Pregnancy.

Side Effects

The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Bambuterol, which give rise to further complications include Tonic muscle cramps. The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Bambuterol are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Palpitation, Tremor, Dizziness, Fatigue.

Warnings

Bambuterol is not recommended in patients with severe impaired liver function. It should be used with caution in patients with thyrotoxicosis and in patients with severe cardiovascular disorders. It is not suitable for the relief of acute bronchospasm or in patients with unstable respiratory disease.

High Risk Groups

Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers, and patients suffering from Liver Malfunction. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.

Adult Dosage

10 to 20 mg (15 (15)) 24 hourly PO — Gradually Increased

Child Dosage

0.5 to 1 mg/kg (0.75 (0.75)) 24 hourly Oral — -
