Overview
Betahistine (HCl) is a histamine analogue used as a vasodilator to reduce the frequency of attacks of dizziness in Menier'e disease, administered orally.
Indications
Betahistine (HCl) is primarily indicated in conditions like Hearing loss, Tinnitus, Vertigo.
Contraindications
Betahistine (HCl) is contraindicated in conditions like Asthma,Peptic ulcer,Phaeochromocytoma,Rhinitis,Urticaria.
Side Effects
The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute over dosage of Betahistine (HCl) include Nausea, Vomiting, Seizures, Dyspepsia, Ataxia.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Betahistine (HCl) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Drowsiness, Nausea, Dyspepsia.
Warnings
Betahistine should not be given to neonates, children, during pregnancy and lactation and in patients with pheochromocytoma. It should be used with caution in patients with asthma or peptic ulcer.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers, and Neonates.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Adult Dosage
16 mg (16 (16)) 8 hourly PO — Initial, increase dose as per response 24 to 48 mg (36 (36)) 24 hourly PO — Maintenance.
Child Dosage
