Overview
Ceftaroline is a cephalosporin (SEF a low spor in) antibiotic that is used to treat skin infections caused by bacteria in adults and newborns (at least 34 weeks gestational age and 12 days postnatal age).
Ceftaroline is also used to treat pneumonia caused by bacteria in adults and children 2 months of age and older.
Ceftaroline may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Contraindications
You should not take ceftaroline if you are allergic to cefadroxil or other cephalosporin antibiotic ( cefdinir , cefalexin, Keflex, Omnicef , and others).
Tell your doctor if you have ever had:
a seizure; an allergy to any drugs (especially penicillins ); kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis); or intestinal problems, such as colitis .
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Side Effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Ceftaroline may cause serious side effects. Call your doctor at once if you have:
severe stomach pain, diarrhea that is watery or bloody (even if it occurs months after your last dose); little or no urination; a seizure; drowsiness , tiredness, confusion, thinking problems; low potassium --leg cramps, constipation , irregular heartbeats, fluttering in your chest, muscle weakness or limp feeling; or low blood cell counts -- sudden weakness or ill feeling, fever, chills, cold or flu symptoms, mouth sores, skin sores, easy bruising, unusual bleeding, pale skin, cold hands and feet, feeling light-headed or short of breath.
Common side effects of ceftaroline may include:
nausea; diarrhea; or rash.

Adult Dosage
200 to 200 mg (200 (200)) 12 hourly IV infusion — (For patient with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), including hemodialysis) IV infusion administered over 1 hour. Constitution time is less than 2 minutes. Mix gently and check that the content has dissolved.
300 to 300 mg (300 (300)) 12 hourly IV infusion — (For patient with creatinine clearance 15-30 ml/min) IV infusion administered over 1 hour
400 to 400 mg (400 (400)) 12 hourly IV infusion — (For patient with
creatinine clearance 30-50 mL/min ) IV infusion administered over 1 hour
600 to 600 mg (600 (600)) 12 hourly IV infusion — (For patient with normal renal function) IV infusion administered over 1 hour in adults = 18 years of age
