Overview
HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor is a lipid regulating drug. It is mainly used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia.
Indications
Cerivastatin Sodium is primarily indicated in conditions like Hyperlipoproteinemia and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Hypercholesterolemia.
Contraindications
Cerivastatin Sodium is contraindicated in conditions like Acute liver disease, Porphyria.
Side Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Cerivastatin Sodium are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Headache, Insomnia, Skin rashes, Blurred vision, Dysgeusia.
Warnings
It should be avoided during pregnancy since there is a possibility that it could interfere with fetal sterol synthesis. It should be discontinued if marked or persistent increases in serum aminotransferase or creatine-phosphokinase concentrations occur. It should not be given in severe renal impairment and liver function should be monitored
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Paediatrics, Pregnant Mothers, patients suffering from Kidney dysfunction, patients suffering from Liver Malfunction, and Neonates.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Adult Dosage
100 ug (100 (100)) 24 hourly PO — In the evening, initially.
