Cetylpyridinium Chloride

Cetylpyridium chloride is a common pharmaceutical ingredient. Cetylpyridium chloride is a cationic quaternary ammonium compound that can be found in mouthwashes, toothpastes, lozenges, throat sprays, breath sprays, and nasal sprays It acts as an antimicrobial preservative; antiseptic; cationic surfactant; disinfectant; solubilizing agent; and wetting agent. As an active ingredient in oral antiseptics it has been noted to have a broad antimicrobial spectrum with a rapid bactericidal effect on gram-positive pathogens and a fungicide effect on yeasts. Cetylpyridinium Chloride is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity to any component of product.

The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Cetylpyridinium Chloride are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Nausea, Vomiting, Urticaria, Skin irritation, Burning sensation, Tooth staining, Temporary loss of taste.

If sore throat persists for more than three days consult a doctor. Do not use in children under 6 years of age. Children over 6 should be supervised when using this mouthwash.

If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages, he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.

1 (1 (1)) 6 hourly One lozenge every 3 hours. Allow the lozenge to dissolve slowly in the mouth — Rinse vigorously before or after brushing or any time to freshen the mouth. Use full strength every two or three hours as a soothing , foaming gargle , or as directed by a physician or dentist . It may also mixed by warm water . ( ) —

1.4 mg (1.4 (1.4)) 3 hourly oral — For children greater than 6 years.Allow lozenge to dissolve slowly in the mouth 15 ml (15 (15)) As recommended. For children greater than 6 years.Gargle or rinse with atleast 15 ml .Repeat 2-3 times daily —
