Contraindications

Cloxacillin is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity.

Side Effects

WARNING/CAUTION: Even though it may be rare, some people may have very bad and sometimes deadly side effects when taking a drug. Tell your doctor or get medical help right away if you have any of the following signs or symptoms that may be related to a very bad side effect: Signs of an allergic reaction, like rash ; hives; itching ; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever ; wheezing ; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. Sneezing. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Severe diarrhea , even after drug is stopped. Any unexplained bruising or bleeding. Seizures . For females, vaginal yeast infection . Report itching or discharge.

Warnings

Cloxacillin should be used with caution in patients with any other illnesses or any allergy especially to penicillin or other antibiotics. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or lactation.

High Risk Groups

Drug should not be given to patients suffering from Kidney dysfunction, patients suffering from Liver Malfunction, and Neonates. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.

Adult Dosage

Drug Interactions

Cloxacillin is known to interact with other drugs, the details of drug interactions is as follows:DrugDetailsSeverityOnsetManagementChloramphenicolChloramphenicol inhibit the effect of cloxacillin by inhibiting cellular protein synthesis and change bacteria into static one thus reducing the effectiveness of carbenicillin.ModerateCombination must be avoided. If necessary then cloxacillin administered several hours before chloramphenicol and closely observed.ProbenecidTetracycline (HCl) These interactions are sometimes beneficial and sometimes may pose threats to life. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.
