Overview
Dexketoprofen is an isomer of ketoprofen. It has been introduced for the short-term relief of mild to moderate pain including dysmenorrhea.
Indications
Dexketoprofen is primarily indicated in conditions like Osteoarthritis, Painful musculoskeletal conditions, Primary dysmenorrhea, Toothache.
Contraindications
Dexketoprofen is contraindicated in conditions like Cryptococcal meningitis.
Side Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Dexketoprofen, which give rise to further complications include Hepatic damage, Renal damage. The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Dexketoprofen are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Vertigo, Headache, Fatigue, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Nervousness, Tinnitus, Pain, Skin Rash, Vertigo, Dyspepsia, Hypersensitivity reactions, Angioedema, GI discomfort, Tinnitus.
Warnings
Dxketoprofen should be used with caution in elderly, during pregnancy, and breast feeding and in coagulation defects. Long term use of NSAIDs is associated with reduced female fertility which is reversible on stopping treatment. In patients with renal cardiac and hepatic impairment caution is required since NSAIDs may impair renal function.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers, Cardiac / Hypertensive Patients, patients suffering from Kidney dysfunction, patients suffering from Liver Malfunction, and Geriatrics. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages, he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
