Overview
Diloxanide (Furoate) is a dichloroacetamide derivative. It acts as amoebicidal agent. Diloxanide (Furoate) is used in the treatment of intestinal amebiasis (dysentery) in combination with other drugs. Diloxanide furoate is a pcodeng and is hydcolyned in the gut to diloxamide (active ingredient)
Indications
Diloxanide (Furoate) is primarily indicated in conditions like Asymptomatic cyst passers, Eradication, Intestinal amoebiasis, Mild amebic dysentery, Non-dysenteric intestinal amebiasis, Oliguria due to renal failure, Parkinsonism.

Side Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Diloxanide (Furoate) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Flatulence, Nausea, Vomiting, Anorexia, Diarrhea, Abdominal cramps, Urticaria, Esophagitis, Paresthesia, Albuminuria.
Warnings
Diloxanide should be used with caution in patient with symptomatic intestinal amebiasis or extra-intestinal amebiasis, during pregnancy and in children less than 2 years of age.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers, and Neonates.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Adult Dosage
500 mg (500 (500)) 8 hourly PO — For 10 Days
Child Dosage
20 mg/kg (20 (20)) As recommended. Oral — Children of 12 years. It is given for 10days.
5 to 10 mg/kg (7.5 (7.5)) 8 hourly Oral — Recommended for 5-12 Yrs of Children
