Overview
Eugenol is a constituent of clove oil and some other essential oils. Eugenol is used in dental and oral hygiene preparations. Eugenol is an irritant, sensitizer and can produce local anaesthesia. Eugenol is also used as a flavor.
Indications
Eugenol is primarily indicated in conditions like Local anaesthesia.
Contraindications
Eugenol is contraindicated in conditions like Breast feeding, Hypersensitivity to any component of product.
Side Effects
The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Eugenol include Vomiting, Seizures, Shortness of breath, Sore throat, Sedation, Rashes, difficulty in breathing.
Warnings
Eugenol taken by mouth may lower blood sugar levels. Caution is advised when using medications that may also lower blood sugar. Patients taking drugs for diabetes by mouth or insulin should be monitored closely by a qualified healthcare provider. Medication adjustments may be necessary. When applied to the skin, eugenol, may reduce the ability to feel and react to painful stimulation. Therefore, use with other numbing or pain-reducing products such as capsaicin cream may in theory cause exaggerated effects.
