Overview
Gamma Linolenic Acid is a derivative of linoleic acids (fatty acids of the omega-6 series), that is an essential constituent of the diet. The preparation containing these acids, is used in the symptomatic relief of atopic eczema and mastalgia.
Indications
Gamma Linolenic Acid is primarily indicated in conditions like Atopic eczema, Cyclical and non cyclical mastalgia, Pruritus, Ulcerative colitis.
Contraindications
Gamma Linolenic Acid is contraindicated in conditions like Pregnancy, Breast feeding.
Side Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Gamma Linolenic Acid, which give rise to further complications include Epilepsy. The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Gamma Linolenic Acid include Abdominal pain, Loose stool. The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Gamma Linolenic Acid are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Nausea, Rashes, Urticaria, Pruritus, Indigestion.
Warnings
Caution is advised in those using anticoagulant or antiplatelet (blood thinning) agents.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
