Overview
It is used to help lower the chance of infection from minor cuts , scrapes , burns, or insect bites .

Contraindications
Gentian Violet is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity to the drug.
Side Effects
WARNING/CAUTION: Even though it may be rare, some people may have very bad and sometimes deadly side effects when taking a drug. Tell your doctor or get medical help right away if you have any of the following signs or symptoms that may be related to a very bad side effect: Signs of an allergic reaction, like rash ; hives; itching ; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever ; wheezing ; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Warnings
It should not be used on ulcerated area, and in case of porphyria. Infants should be turned face down after application of gentian violet to minimize amount of drug swallowed, may result in tattooing of the skin when applied to granulation tissue, solution is for external use only, avoid contact with eyes.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Adult Dosage
1 to 2 % (1.5 (1.5)) 8 hourly Topical —
Child Dosage
0.5 to 2 % (1.2 (1.25)) 8 hourly Topical — -
