Overview
Hepatitis B Immunoglobulin is a sterile liquid freeze-dried preparation containing immunoglobulins, mainly immunoglobulin G (IgG), derived from the plasma from selected immunized donors having specific antibodies against hepatitis B surface antigen. Hepatitis B immunoglobulins are used for the passive immunization of persons expose or possibly exposed to hepatitis B virus.
Indications
Hepatitis B Immunoglobulin is primarily indicated in conditions like Prevention of hepatitis B, Post exposure prophylaxis.
Contraindications
Hepatitis B Immunoglobulin is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity, Severe bleeding disorders
Side Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Hepatitis B Immunoglobulin are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Nausea, Fever, Chills, Facial flushing, Hypersensitivity, Erythema, Myalgia, Malaise, Injection site pain, Vomiting, Ecchymosis, Lethargy, Chest tightness.
Warnings
It should be used with caution in patients with any pre-existing illnesses, blood disorders or any allergy, including any drug allergy. It should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Patients should be monitored for serum anti-HBS antibody levels regularly.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Adult Dosage
0.06 ml/ kg (0.06 (0.06)) As recommended. IM — As soon as possible after exposure. For Perinatal exposure, Give within 12 hours after birth.
