Overview

Ibandronic acid is a bisphosphonate, a potent inhibitor of bone resorption. Ibandronic acid is used orally or parenterally in hypercalcemia of malignancy, and also for the reduction of bone damage in bone metastases in breast cancer.

Indications

Ibandronic Acid is primarily indicated in conditions like Hypercalcemia due to malignancy, Hypercalcemia of malignancy.

Contraindications

Ibandronic Acid is contraindicated in conditions like Pregnancy,Breast feeding,Pain and inflammation (rheumatic disease).

Side Effects

The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Ibandronic Acid are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Fever, Abdominal pain, Chills, Dyspepsia, Bone pain, Influenza like syndrome, Dysphagia, Hypersensitivity reactions, Bronchospasm, Angioedema, Muscle pain, Ulceration, Esophagitis.

Warnings

Ibandronic acid should be used with caution in patients with hepatic impairment; monitor renal function and serum calcium, phosphate and magnesium; cardiac disease (avoid fluid overload).

High Risk Groups

Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages, he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.

Adult Dosage

100 to 150 mg (120 (125)) As recommended. PO — You should take the tablet with plenty of water - never milk. You need to take it on an empty stomach, so take it at 30 minutes before you have a meal or drink, or an hour afterwards. First thing in the morning before breakfast is often a good time, as you should stay sitting or standing afterwards for an hour.
