Overview
Lenograstim is a recombinant human granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (rhG-CSF) that stimulates the production of neutrophils and may reduce the duration of chemotherapy-induced neutropenia and there by reduce the incidence of associated sepsis; there is yet no evidence that it improves overall survival.
Indications
Lenograstim is primarily indicated in conditions like Bone marrow transplantation, Cytotoxic-induced neutropenia, Mobilization of peripheral blood progenitor cells, Neutropenia, Reduction in the duration of neutropenia following bone marrow transplantation.
Contraindications
Lenograstim is contraindicated in conditions like Kostmann's syndrome.
Side Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Lenograstim, which give rise to further complications include Thrombocytopenia, Disturbed hepatic function, Anemia. The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Lenograstim are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Diarrhea, Hypotension, Bone pain, Vasculitis, Uricemia, Proteinuria, Musculoskeletal pain, Epistaxis.
Warnings
Caution should be taken if tumors with myeloid characteristics (risk of the tumor growth), pre-malignant myeloid conditions is present. Reduced myeloid precursors, monitor leucocyte count (discontinue treatment if leukocytosis); monitor platelet count and hemoglobin; regular morphological and cytogenetic bone marrow examinations recommended in severe congenital neutropenia (possible risk of myelodysplastic syndromes or leukemia) monitor spleen size, osteoporotic bone disease ( monitor bone marrow density if given for more than 6 months).

Adult Dosage
19.2 Mllion Units/ Sq.meter (19 (19.2)) 24 hourly SC,IV Inf — Started the day after transplantation /chemotherapy completion.
Child Dosage
19.2 million unit/sq metre (35 (35)) 24 hourly IV Infusion — Not use more than 28 days .Dose recommended for paeds over 2 Yrs
