Overview
Lercanidipine (HCl) is a long acting calcium channel antagonist with actions similar to Nifedipine. Used as a once-daily treatment for hypertension. It exerts its antihypertensive effect by inhibiting the influx of extracellular calcium across the cell membranes of myocardial and vascular smooth muscle. Serum calcium levels remain unchanged.
Indications
Lercanidipine (HCl) is primarily indicated in conditions like Hypertension, Mild to moderate hypertension.

Side Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Lercanidipine (HCl) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Headache, Fatigue, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Palpitation, Tachycardia, Peripheral edema, Hypotension, Flushing, Asthenia, Epigastric pain, GI disturbance.
Warnings
Lercanidipine should be used with caution in pts. with kidney or liver disease. Consider decrease in dose of calcium channel blockers & monitor drug response in cirrhosis pts.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.

10 to 20 mg (15 (15)) 24 hourly PO —
