Loperamide (HCl) is antidiarrheal agent. Loperamide (HCl) is chemically related to haloperidol, acting directly on the intestinal wall o inhibit peristalsis. It acts more rapidly and is longer acting than diphenoxylate and codeine. Loperamide (HCl) is also effective to reduce the amount of discharge from ileostomies. Loperamide (HCl) is prepared by chemical synthesis. Loperamide (HCl) is administered orally.
Indications
Loperamide (HCl) is primarily indicated in conditions like Acute diarrhea, Chronic diarrhea in adults, Control of agitated states in elderly without confusion, Diarrhea, The pain of bowel colic in palliative care.
Contraindications
Loperamide (HCl) is contraindicated in conditions like Acute dysentery, Pseudomembranous colitis, Bloody diarrhea, High fever, Infectious diarrhea, Pseudomembranous colitis.
Side Effects
The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Loperamide (HCl) include Constipation, Somnolence, Bradypnea, Muscular hypertonia, Neurological symptoms, Ileus. The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Loperamide (HCl) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Drowsiness, Fatigue, Nausea, Vomiting, Skin reactions, Abdominal cramps, Urticaria, Dry mouth, Bullous eruptions, Pancreatitis.
Warnings
Allergy alert: Do not use if you have ever had a rash or other allergic reaction to loperamide HCl
Heart alert: Taking more than directed can cause serious heart problems or death
Do not use
if you have bloody or black stool in children under 12 years of age
Ask a doctor before use if you have
fever mucus in the stool a history of liver disease a history of abnormal heart rhythm

When using this product tiredness, drowsiness, or dizziness may occur. Be careful when driving or operating machinery.

Adult Dosage
4 to 16 mg (10 (10)) 24 hourly PO — Followed by 2mg/dose after each stool upto max dose of 16mg/day.
Scraped Dose — drink plenty of clear fluids to help prevent dehydration caused by diarrhea not for use in children under 12 years of age adults and children 12 years and over: 2 softgels after the first loose stool; 1 softgel after each subsequent loose stool; but no more than 4 softgels in 24 hours
