Overview
Manganese Sulphate used as a haematinic to increase the effect of iron in treatment of iron deficiency anemia.
Indications
Manganese Sulphate is primarily indicated in conditions like Parenteral nutrition.
Contraindications
Manganese Sulphate is contraindicated in conditions like Liver cirrhosis.
Side Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Manganese Sulphate, which give rise to further complications include Extrapyramidal symptoms, Hypermanganesemia, Cholestatic liver disease, Impaired biliary secretion.
Warnings
It should be used cautiously in young children and pregnant females. In biliary tract or hepatic dysfunction increased blood concentrations may result because manganese is normally excreted in bile.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to patients suffering from Liver Malfunction. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Adult Dosage
200 mcg (200 (200)) As recommended. IV —
Child Dosage
2 to 0 mcg/kg/day (1 (1)) 24 hourly —
