Nalidixic Acid is contraindicated in conditions like Epilepsy, Convulsions, Hypersensitivity.

WARNING/CAUTION: Even though it may be rare, some people may have very bad and sometimes deadly side effects when taking a drug. Tell your doctor or get medical help right away if you have any of the following signs or symptoms that may be related to a very bad side effect: Signs of an allergic reaction, like rash ; hives; itching ; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever ; wheezing ; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. Joint pain or swelling. Mood changes. Change in the way you act. Very bad headache . Feeling confused. Change in eyesight. Seizures.

Nalidixic acid should be used with caution in patients with any pre-existing kidney disease, liver disease, seizure disorder, nervous system disorder or any allergies especially allergies to antibiotics. It should be use with caution while driving or performing tasks requiring alertness, because it may cause dizziness or lightheadedness. Limit alcohol intake. Because this medication increases sensitivity to the sun, avoid prolonged sun exposure, wear protective clothing and use a sunscreen when outdoors. It should be used with caution during pregnancy or lactation.

Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers, and Neonates.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.

1000 mg (1000 (1000)) 6 hourly PO — For at least 7 days

55 to 0 mg/kg (28 (27.5)) 6 hourly Oral — For at least 7 days reducing there after to about 30mg/kg daily in 4 divided doses.
