Overview
Nicotinyl alcohol is a direct-acting peripheral vasodilator that causes flushing and may decrease blood pressure. It is used in vasospasm and threatened gangrene.
Indications
Nicotinyl Alcohol is primarily indicated in conditions like Gangrene, Hyperlipidaemias, Menieres disease, Peripheral vasospasm, Vasospasm, Vertigo.
Contraindications
Nicotinyl Alcohol is contraindicated in conditions like Diabetes mellitus,Myocardial infarction,Peptic ulcer,Cerebrovascular disease,Glaucoma.
Side Effects
The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Nicotinyl Alcohol include Hypotension, Diarrhea, Dizziness, Fainting, Rashes, Nausea & vomiting, Hepatic toxicity.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Nicotinyl Alcohol are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Flushing, Tingling, vasodialation.
Warnings
If high doses are taken for long periods it is recommended that liver function is monitored. Use with caution in diabetes. The safety of this medicine in pregnancy has not been established. It should therefore be used with caution during pregnancy, and only if the benefits to the mother outweigh any risks to the foetus.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers, and Cardiac / Hypertensive Patients.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Adult Dosage
150 to 300 mg (220 (225)) As recommended. PO — 2-3 times a day.
