Overview
Phenylpropanolamine (HCl) is indirectly acting sympathomimetic with prominent peripheral adrenergic effects and weak central stimulant action. Phenylpropanolamine (HCl) is mainly used as a nasal decongestant. Phenylpropanolamine (HCl) is also used as anorexiant in obesity and to treat urinary incontinence.
Indications
Phenylpropanolamine (HCl) is primarily indicated in conditions like Appetite suppresser, Cold, Congestion, Cough, Urinary incontinence.
Contraindications
Phenylpropanolamine (HCl) is contraindicated in conditions like Glaucoma, Hypertension, Hyperthyroidism, Prostatic hypertrophy, Intestinal obstruction.
Side Effects
Phenylpropanolamine (HCl) produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Hypertension. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Phenylpropanolamine (HCl) therapy. The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Phenylpropanolamine (HCl) include Epileptic seizures, Hallucinations, Psychosis. The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Phenylpropanolamine (HCl) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Headache, Nausea, Palpitation, Tremors, Chest tightness.
Warnings
Use topical decongestant (phenylpropanolamine) only in acute conditions, not longer than 3 to 5 days. It should be used sparingly in all patients, especially in infants, children and in cardiac patients. Avoid continuous use for longer than 3 months.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Paediatrics, Pregnant Mothers, Geriatrics, and Neonates. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.

25 to 50 mg (38 (37.5)) 4 hourly PO —
