Overview
Pizotifen (Hydrogen Maleate) or pizotyline is a benzocycloheptene-based drug used as a medicine, primarily as a preventive to reduce the frequency of recurrent migraine headaches.
Indications
Pizotifen (Hydrogen Maleate) is primarily indicated in conditions like Appetite stimulation, Migraine prophylaxis, Prevention of vascular headache, Prophylaxis of vascular headache.
Contraindications
Pizotifen (Hydrogen Maleate) is contraindicated in conditions like Glaucoma, Prostatic hypertrophy.
Side Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Pizotifen (Hydrogen Maleate) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Drowsiness, Dry mouth, Increased appetite, Weight gain.
Warnings
Patients should be warned that owing to its possible sedative effect, pizotifen may slow their reactions when driving vehicles or operating machinery etc.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers, and Neonates. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.

0.5 mg (0.5 (0.5)) 8 hourly PO — Maintenance dose,
Child Dosage
0.02 mg/kg (0.02 (0.02)) 8 hourly Oral — Dose for Children of 5-12 Yrs
