Overview
Procaterol is an intermediate-acting β2 adrenoreceptor agonist used for the treatment of asthma. It is used as a bronchodilator in the management of asthma or in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Indications
Procaterol is primarily indicated in conditions like Asthma, Chronic bronchitis, Dyspnea, Emphysema.
Contraindications
Procaterol is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity to any component of product.
Side Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Procaterol are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Anaphylactoid reactions.
Warnings
Procaterol should be administered with care in the patients with hyperthyroidism, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes mellitus.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers, and Cardiac / Hypertensive Patients. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Adult Dosage
50 mg (50 (50)) 24 hourly PO — Frequency may be increased upto twice daily if needed.
Child Dosage
0.625 to 1.25 ug/kg (0.94 (0.9375)) 12 hourly Oral — -
Neonatal Dosage
0.78 to 1.56 ug/kg (1.2 (1.17)) 12 hourly Oral —
