Overview
Raloxifene (HCl) is a nonsteroidal anti-estrogen with some estrogenic activity. Raloxifene (HCl) is used in women who are at great risk of post-menopausal osteoporosis. Raloxifene (HCl) is also indicated for prophylaxis and treatment of vertebral fractures in postmenopausal women.
Indications
Raloxifene (HCl) is primarily indicated in conditions like Osteoporosis in post-menopausal women, Breast cancer.
Contraindications
Raloxifene (HCl) is contraindicated in conditions like Thrombosis, Vaginal bleeding, Pregnancy, Lactation.
Side Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Raloxifene (HCl) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Flatulence, Nausea, Vomiting, Fever, Insomnia, Rashes, Depression, Weight gain, Hot flushes, Increased intracranial pressure, Migraine, Gastroenteritis, Sinusitis, Bronchitis, Pharyngitis, Breast pain, Diaphoresis, Pulmonary embolism.
Warnings
Raloxifene should be used with caution in patients with any allergy (especially drug allergies), blood clots, heart failure, cancer or liver disease. This drug should be stopped at least 3 days before and during long periods of inactivity (e.g., bed rest). Blood clots, though unlikely, are more common when not moving. Avoid long periods of sitting or lying down during travel. This drug should not be used during pregnancy or lactation. This drug should not be used in children.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
