Overview
Roxatidine is a selective, competitive H2 receptor antagonist. It inhibits gastric acid secretion. It is used in the management of peptic ulcer disease.
Indications
Roxatidine is primarily indicated in conditions like GI ulceration, Hyperacidity, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Reflux esophagitis.
Contraindications
Roxatidine is contraindicated in conditions like Anuria.
Side Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Roxatidine are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Headache, Diarrhea, Restlessness, Constipation, Skin rashes, Nausea and vomiting, Fast heart rate, Chest pain, Visual disturbance, Increased liver enzymes activity.
Warnings
Roxatidine should be used with caution in patients with impaired kidney or liver function. Intravenous injection should be given slowly and intravenous infusion is recommended in patients with cardiovascular impairment.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to patients suffering from Kidney dysfunction.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
