Overview
Sodium Calcium edetate is a chelating agent. Sodium Calcium edetate is used in the treatment of lead poisonings.
Indications
Sodium Calcium edetate is primarily indicated in conditions like Lead poisoning, Skin diseases.
Contraindications
Sodium Calcium edetate is contraindicated in conditions like Renal insufficiency.
Side Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Sodium Calcium edetate, which give rise to further complications include Renal tubular changes. The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Sodium Calcium edetate are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Thirst, Headache, Fatigue, Malaise, Nausea and vomiting, Urinary urgency, Urinary frequency.
Warnings
Sodium calcium edetate should be used with caution in patients with impaired renal function. Regular monitoring of renal function for proteinuria and hematuria has been recommended. It should not be given by mouth in the treatment of lead poisoning.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to patients suffering from Kidney dysfunction.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Adult Dosage
14.29 mg/kg.hr (14 (14.29)) 12 hourly IV Inf — Upto 2.1-2.8 Hours for 5 Days
Child Dosage
40 mg/kg (40 (40)) 12 hourly IV Infusion — Treat for up to 5 days
Neonatal Dosage
40 mg/kg (40 (40)) 12 hourly IV Infusion — Treat up to 5 days
