Overview
Sodium Ironedetate is a haematinic agent. Sodium Ironedetate is used as a source of iron in iron deficiency anemia.
Indications
Sodium Ironedetate is primarily indicated in conditions like Anemia, Iron deficiency.
Contraindications
Sodium Ironedetate is contraindicated in conditions like Thalassemia.
Side Effects
The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Sodium Ironedetate include Diarrhea, Metabolic acidosis, Hyperglycemia, Abdominal pain, Nausea & vomiting, Haematemesis, Rectal bleeding. The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Sodium Ironedetate are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Nausea, Diarrhea.
Warnings
Should be avoided in patients with iron over load.

Adult Dosage
5 mL (5 (5)) 8 hourly PO — Increasing gradually to 10ml three times daily.
