Contraindications

Streptokinase is contraindicated in conditions like Hypertension, Peptic ulcer, Cardiac stroke, Trauma, Bleeding diathesis.

Side Effects

WARNING/CAUTION: Even though it may be rare, some people may have very bad and sometimes deadly side effects when taking a drug. Tell your doctor or get medical help right away if you have any of the following signs or symptoms that may be related to a very bad side effect: Signs of an allergic reaction, like rash; hives; itching ; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever; wheezing ; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of bleeding like throwing up or coughing up blood; vomit that looks like coffee grounds; blood in the urine; black, red, or tarry stools; bleeding from the gums; abnormal vaginal bleeding; bruises without a cause or that get bigger; or bleeding you cannot stop. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Fast or slow heartbeat . Flushing. Shortness of breath , a big weight gain, or swelling in the arms or legs. Chest pain or pressure. Fever or chills.

Warnings

Before starting therapy with streptokinase determine hematocrits, platelets counts, thrombin time, prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, fibrinogen levels.

High Risk Groups

Drug should not be given to Geriatrics, and Neonates. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.

Adult Dosage

100000 lU/hr (100000 (100000)) As recommended. IV Inf — Every hr for 24-72 Hours. 250000 IU (250000 (250000)) As recommended. IV — Load for 30 min.

Child Dosage

2500 to 4000 ug/kg (3200 (3250)) As recommended. IV Infusion — Load over 25 Minutes 8.33 to 16.66 ug/kg.min (12 (12.495)) As recommended. IV Infusion — Maintenance, As Required

Neonatal Dosage

2500 to 4000 ug/kg (3200 (3250)) As recommended. IV Infusion — Load over 25 Minutes 8.33 to 16.66 ug/kg.min (12 (12.495)) As recommended. IV Infusion — Maintenance, As Required

Drug Interactions

Storage

Inj (reconstituted soln) Store in refrigerator. Use within 8 hrs if kept at room temperature.
