Overview
A newer 5 HT-4 partial agonist. It is used in the treatment of patients with irritable bowel syndrome with predominant constipation. Tegaserod appears to be an extremely safe agent.
Indications
Tegaserod is primarily indicated in conditions like Abdominal discomfort, Constipation, Irritable bowel syndrome.
Contraindications
Tegaserod is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity.
Side Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Tegaserod are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Flatulence, Dizziness, Headache, Nausea, Diarrhea, Influenza like syndrome, Backache.
Warnings
Special care is necessary in patients with severe hepatic impairment and in patients with lactose intolerance, Pregnancy and Breast feeding.
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Pediatrics, Pregnant Mothers, and patients suffering from Liver Malfunction. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.

6 mg (6 (6)) 12 hourly PO — Before Meals (Breakfast & Dinner) for 1 month
