Overview

Terbinafine (HCl) is antifungal agent. Terbinafine (HCl) is a synthetic allylamine and available as oral and topical formulation. Oral terbinafine is highly effective for treating onychomycosis due to its fungicidal activity and ability to concentrate within the nails.

Indications

Terbinafine (HCl) is primarily indicated in conditions like Athlete's foot, Dermatophyte infections of the nails, Fungal infection, Hair and nail infection, Ringworm, Skin infections, Tinea corporis, Tinea cruris, Tinea pedis, Yeast infection.

Contraindications

Terbinafine (HCl) is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity, Chronic or Acute liver disease.

Side Effects

The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Terbinafine (HCl) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Nausea, Vomiting, Anorexia, Abdominal pain, Rashes, Urticaria, Redness, Itching, Increased intracranial pressure, Stinging, Headache, Taste disturbance, Elevated LFTs, Visual disturbances, Angioedema.

Warnings

Terbinafine should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. It should be used with caution in patients with any pre-existing illness, infections or allergy, especially to any antibiotic.

High Risk Groups

Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.

Adult Dosage

1 % (1 (1)) 12 hourly Topical — For 1-2 Weeks 250 mg (250 (250)) 24 hourly PO —
