Overview
Xylitol is a five carbon sugar alcohol derived from xylose by reduction of the carbonyl group. Xylitol is as sweet as sucrose and is used as a noncariogenic sweetener and also as a sugar substitute in diabetic diet.
Indications
Xylitol is primarily indicated in conditions like CHO deficiency.

Side Effects
Xylitol produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Renal failure, Unconsciousness, which are responsible for the discontinuation of Xylitol therapy.
Warnings
It should not be used in patients with cardiac insufficiency and irreversible liver damage.
