Examination of Injury Cases
Not yet clinically reviewed
This protocol was migrated from the earlier Pharmapedia and Ward Guide apps for educational use. Follow your hospital's own policies and consult seniors when in doubt.
Introduction
Some points to remember:
- Note the alleged cause of injury.
- Note two identification marks.
- Describe injuries precisely. The description should include the nature, dimensions, edges, ends, direction and age of injury.
- Express opinion as to the causation of the injury.
- Inform police when the patient has reported on his own or brought by others.
- Issue a wound certificate as well as discharge certificate.
- Refer the patient to another hospital, if adequate facilities for treatment are not available, after giving first aid (discharge certificate in this case is to be issued by the attending doctor of the referral hospital).
