Femoral Vein Puncture

Femoral vein lies at the midinguinal point medial to femoral artery

  • Feel the femoral artery at midinguinal point.
  • Clean the skin over the area thoroughly.
  • Insert the needle just medial to the femoral artery.
  • Aspirate and if blood is not forthcoming, slowly withdraw the needle while applying suction.

Femoral triangle venipuncture: A contralateral finger palpates the artery lateral to the femoral veins 1 cm distal to the inguinal ligamentAfter obtaining required amount of blood, remove the needle.Apply a dry swab to the puncture site with firm pressure for 3-10 minutes
