Urticaria

Urticaria, commonly referred to as hives, appears as raised, well-circumscribed areas of erythema and edema involving the dermis and epidermis that are very pruritic (see the image below). It may be acute (6 weeks).

Treatment

Lesion starts within minutes, Severe itching, Insect bite may be there.

  • Tab Chlorpheniramine 4mg, Brands (Piriton), 1tab stat, then repeat 1tab every 12 hours till urticaria
  • If breathlessness develops then;
  • Inj Adrenaline 1ml of 1:1000
  • Inj Hydrocortisone 100mg IV
  • Tab Loratadine (Softin) 10mg, 1x at night
