Head Scalp wounds: Bleed profusely – often are lacerated. Wound excision and primary suturing should be attempted within 8 hours of the injury.
Skull fracture: Vault: — Depressed — Stellate
Fracture of base of skull: Communication to ear or nose is common.
Regimen to prevent meningeal infection to be started X-ray skull: Helpful in locating vault fractures.
CT scan in: Unconscious patient Depressed fractures Deterioration while observing Persistent headache Bradycardia Neurological deficits detected Avoid narcotic drugs and always get a second opinion from the neurosurgeon.
