Meningitis

Meningitis is an inflammation of the fluid and membranes (meninges) surrounding your brain and spinal cord.
Signs and symptoms:
- Sudden high fever
- Stiff neck
- Severe headache that seems different from normal
- Headache with nausea or vomiting
- Confusion or difficulty concentrating
- Seizures
- Sleepiness or difficulty waking
- Sensitivity to light
- No appetite or thirst
- Skin rash (sometimes, such as in meningococcal meningitis)
Diagnosis
Blood Cultures, CT-scan, X.-ray, MRI
Treatment
Inj Ranicef (Ceftriaxone) 500 mg IV for 5 days
Inj Danset (Ondansetron) 8 mg/4 ml 0.8 cc IV once
Inf Bofalgan (Acetaminophen) 1 g/100 ml 7ml IV once
Inj Midaron (Midazolam) 1 mg/ml 0.6 mg IV once
Inf Unizol (Dimenhydrinate) 500 mg/100 ml 8 ml IV TDS
Inj Epigran (Phenytoin sodium) 250 mg/5 ml 100 mg IV once in fluids followed by 50 mg BD
