Introduction
Psychosis is the more severe psychiatric disorder where the individual afflicted loses touch with reality. Abnormalities of thought perception and emotion are the manifestations of these illnesses. Because the psychotic does not think that he is ill, drug compliance may be very poor which is a further hindrance in long-term management of such patients.
Types of Psychosis
- Functional:
I. Schizophrenia
ii. Mood disorders (manic depressive psychosis)
a. Mania
b. Depression
c. Mixed
iii. Reactive psychosis
2. Organic:
I. Acute
ii. Chronic
