Ascites is a condition in which fluid collects in spaces within your abdomen. If severe, ascites may be painful.
Ascites is a pathological accumulation of fluid in peritoneal cavity. Contributing factors are portal hypertension, hypoalbuminemia, hepatic lymph, hepatorenal syndrome.
Other clinical features
Jaundice, diffuse abdominal pain, fullness in the flanks, spider nevi, abdominal distension.
O/E; There is eversion of umbilicus, fluid thrill and shifting dullness.

Investigations
Albumin and total proteins, Ascitic fluid analysis, CBC, Culture and gram staining and U/S abdomen.
Management
Salt, water restriction
Bed rest
Water intake less than 1L/day
Tab Spironolactone (Aldactan) 100mg 1x OD
Inj Furosemide (Lasix) 40mg IV BD
Inf Moxifloxacin (Mofest) 400mg IV OD
Inj Omeprazole (Risek) 40mg IV OD
If still not recovered then
Therapeutic tap with regular monitoring of BP
Inf haemacil for fluid replacement of therapeutic tap
Aminoloban for albumen replacement
Definitive treatment- Liver transplant
