Features
- Severe pain in throat
- Pyrexia, difficulty in swallowing, difficulty in opening mouth
- Muffled thick voice
- 0/E: Bulging of soft palate deviation of uvula
Management
Inj- Augmentin/Calamox Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid) 1.2gm IV x TDS 'OR'
Inj- 2sum Q-Bact 1 Sulzone (Cefoperazone + Sulbactum) 2gm IV x BD for 5 days
In less severe cases and patients who are able to tolerate oral intake:
- Tab- Augmentin/Calamox (Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid) 625mg TDS or lgm BD 'OR'
Cap-Dalacin-C (clindamycin) 300mg PO x QID for 7-10 days
- Benzycol (Chlorhexidine) mouth wash 2-3 times a day for a week
- Tab/Syp-Panadol (Paracetamol) 2 tab/TSF PO x SOS
- Plenty of fluids
- Warm saline gargle
- Co for incision and drainage if not responding to antibiotics.
- If still not responding / recurrent episodes, refer to ENT surgeon.
