- Perception of abnormal ear or head noises.
- Persistent tinnitus often, though not always, indicates the presence of sensory hearing loss.
- Intermittent periods of mild, high-pitched tinnitus lasting seconds to minutes are common in normal-hearing persons.
- Exclude serious causes like acoustic neuroma and reassure the patient.
General Measures
- Treat the underlying cause.
- Supportive care with a single drug or any combination of the following for a month
- Tab- Serc (betahistine) 16-24mg 1 tablet PO x TDS.
- Tab- Stematil (prochlorperazine) 5-10mg, 1 tablet PO x TDS with meals.
- Tab- Novertigo/ Stugeron cerebrin (cinnarizine) 25-75mg 1 tablet PO x TDS with meals.
