Principles of management and treatment
Initial ABC ( Airway, Breathing and Circulation) assessment
A secondary survey for infection or trauma of the head or cervical spine, if the patient mental or metabolic activities are abnormal
Supportive care with continuous assessment and monitoring
In case of excessive poisoning , early treatment and supportive care should be provided to the patient before extensive investigation.
1. Depends on route of exposure
Immediately flush eyes with water/saline for 15-20 minutes.
2.Eye exposures
Remove jewelry, clothing. Immediately flush with water for 15 minutes.
3. Inhalation Dermal
Move to fresh air.
4. Injection/Bites and Stings –
Remove clothing, jewelry that might constrict the extremity. Do not excise and apply suction to bites/stings. Constricting band.
5. Ingestion –
Give a glass of water to dilute chemicals such as caustics.
