(Useful only in the first week of illness) – 1-3 drops of blood are sufficient. Bedside inoculation into culture media (EMJH/fletcher, etc) is preferred. – Alternatively send blood in heparinised vials or with added sodium oxalate (Citrate is inhibitory to leptospires).
