- Urethral discharge is to be plated directly on to culture Plate (Chocolate agar) to detect gonococcal urethritis.
- Early morning sample prior to urination is preferred. – If no definite discharge is evident, insert swabs 3 - 4 cm into the urethra and leave for a few seconds.
