Pyogenic Meningitis

Signs: Neck Stiffness, Kernig sign, Brudzinski’s sign.
Investigations: LP (Increase neutrophil, decrease lymphocytes, increase protein, decrease glucose), CBC, CSF Culture.
Management
- Admit the patient
- Inj Ceftriaxone Oxidil 1gm IV BD, In children 100mg/kg daily in divided doses.
- Antibiotic of choice is according to C/S
- Inj Dexamethasone (Decadron) 2cc IV-BD. Before antibiotic
- Inj Omeprazole (Risek) 40mg in 100ml of pladex
- For fits, Diazepam SOS
- Inf R/Lactate 500ml IV BD
- If the LP report is awaiting you can also suspect cerebral malaria so,
- Inj Artesunate (Gen-M) 120mg 0,12,24
